What Is an Embedded Marketer? The Model Explained

Distilledยท{{ meta }}

"Embedded marketer" is the term for a hiring model that has grown up quietly over the last few years, sitting between an in-house hire and an outsourced service. Search engines still half-confuse it with product placement. This page defines it properly.

The definition

An embedded marketer is a full-time marketing expert who works inside your team, on your hours, in your tools and your standups, while a talent partner sources, vets and employs them. You direct the work, exactly as you would with an employee. The partner carries the employment, payroll, support and a replacement guarantee, exactly as a service would. The person is yours in every operational sense; the employment relationship is the partner's.

Three properties make the model what it is:

  • Full-time and exclusive. One client, the whole working week. This is what separates embedding from freelance and agency models, where attention is shared.
  • Inside the team. Your Slack, your meetings, your ad accounts and CRM, your hours. The knowledge compounds with you, not with a provider.
  • Carried by a partner. Sourcing, vetting, employment, payroll and replacement are the partner's job, which removes the recruiting project and the mis-hire risk from your side.

What it is not

It is not offshoring in the classic sense: the person is not a remote resource in a distant time zone working a ticket queue. Full working-hours overlap and team membership are the point. It is not fractional: a fractional marketer or CMO sells days per month; an embedded marketer sells the whole week. And it is not staff augmentation as software teams use the term, where a body is supplied against a spec; the embedded model is built around senior ownership of a channel or function.

Why the model exists

Two facts collided. A senior US growth marketer costs roughly

55,000 or more a year fully loaded and takes months to hire, while the global market for senior marketing talent matured: the person who scaled paid social for a large regional brand has run larger budgets than many candidates at twice the price. Remote work made their location irrelevant. What it did not solve was the filtering and the employment, which is what the embedded partner exists to do.

Distilled is built on exactly this model. Our experts are senior offshore growth marketers, vetted to roughly 1 in 400 applicants, placed full-time and exclusively across nine role families at published flat tiers from $3,000 a month, matched within 7 days, with a free replacement guarantee and an average placement lasting 18+ months.

When embedding fits, and when it does not

It fits when a channel or function needs an owner: someone whose whole week and whole attention belong to your business, at a cost that does not require a US salary. It does not fit defined projects with an end date, part-time needs, or work where breadth across many disciplines at small fractions matters more than depth; for those, a freelance marketplace or an agency is the honest recommendation. If you are choosing between models, the resourcing tool scores all four against your answers, and the ranked guide to offshore and embedded options covers the providers.
